Festive Footsteps for a Cause: Hyde Santa Dash Raises Funds for Purple Heart Wishes

Last Saturday, the streets of Hyde were filled with festive cheer as runners, walkers, families and friends came together for the annual Santa Dash 5K Run and 2K Walk, proudly supporting Purple Heart Wishes.

Dressed head to toe in Santa hats and festive outfits, participants gathered on Market Street, ready to kick off a morning of Christmas spirit, community connection and fundraising. After a safety briefing and warm-up, everyone set off together, supported by brilliant volunteer marshals who helped guide the route and cheer people on every step of the way.

While there was no shortage of festive fun, the heart of the event was its purpose — raising vital funds for Purple Heart Wishes. As a UK charity, we grant wishes to adults aged 18 to 55 living with terminal or life-limiting illnesses, helping them create meaningful moments and lasting memories with their loved ones at an incredibly difficult time.

The Santa Dash was sponsored by EweMove Hyde, whose continued support helped make the event possible. From planning and promotion to being there on the day, their involvement played a huge role in bringing the community together for such a positive cause.

Purple Heart Wishes was founded in memory of Lyndsey, a young woman who sadly passed away after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. Today, the charity relies entirely on the kindness of supporters, volunteers, fundraisers and local businesses to continue granting wishes — and events like the Santa Dash are a perfect example of how powerful community fundraising can be.
